Travel Safety in The Netherlands
Overview
The Netherlands is generally safe. The main security concern to travellers is petty theft. In the capital, Amsterdam, pickpockets are particularly active in tourist areas. Although rare, violent crime does happen, mainly in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, but incidents are generally gang-related and unlikely to impact foreign travellers.
There is an ongoing terrorism risk in the Netherlands stemming largely from both self-radicalised individuals and global extremist groups.
Demonstrations take place occasionally in larger urban centres such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague, and are predominantly peaceful.
There is no major concern of kidnapping or conflict in the country. Medical facilities are widely available and typically of a good standard.
