Travel Safety in Sweden
Overview
Sweden is generally safe. The main security concern that affects travellers is petty theft, especially in isolated areas of major cities during nighttime hours. Although rare, violent crime does occur, mainly in Malmö and Gothenburg, but incidents are generally gang-related and pose an incidental risk to foreign travellers.
Sweden has been subject to terrorist incidents in the past, and there is an ongoing risk stemming mainly from ‘home-grown' Islamist and right-wing militant activity.
Demonstrations take place periodically in larger urban centres such as Stockholm but are usually peaceful.
There are no major concerns related to kidnapping or conflict in the country.
Medical facilities are widely available and of a good standard, but services in rural areas may be limited.
