Travel Safety in Qatar

Overview

Qatar has been impacted by the ongoing conflict in Iran and the broader Middle East region. Drones, rockets, and missiles emanating from Iran have targeted oil infrastructure, Hamad International Airport and the Al Udeid air base.

The situation has led to increased risks of civil unrest, conflict and terrorism - and could yet place strain on medical infrastructure. Travellers should monitor the potential for terrorist incidents targeting interests associated with the United States and the possibility that Iran will engage Qatar in direct conflict.

Ordinarily, Qatar is generally safe. Crime, although rare throughout the country, is more likely to take place in Doha and is usually of a petty and opportunistic nature. Despite not experiencing any recent attacks, Qatar may be targeted in acts of terrorism by transnational extremist groups operating in the wider Middle East region. Demonstrations occur on occasion in major towns and cities but are generally peaceful in nature. Currently, there is no major concern related to kidnapping. There is some discrimination facing both LGBTQ+ and female travellers.
