Travel Safety in France

Overview

Take note that Monaco has a separate dedicated page.

There are a few security concerns in France. Most notably, there is a risk of terrorism, and major incidents have occurred in the past. Generally, these are carried out by lone-actor extremists and homegrown radicals. Geopolitics involving France's ally, the USA, in the Middle East conflict have marginally escalatated this risk.

Crime is mostly petty in nature, and the risk is highest in major cities such as Paris, Bordeaux, Marseille, Nice and Lyon. Demonstrations are common in these cities and may involve violence on occasion.

The risks of kidnapping and conflict in France are negligible. The medical infrastructure in France is suitable to treat almost any condition, but the availibility of care may be limited in rural areas.
