Travel Safety in Falkland Islands

Overview

There are very few security issues in the Falkland Islands. Crime is rare throughout the islands, including in the capital, Stanley.

There is an ongoing but minor risk of conflict occurring in the Falkland Islands due to a long-standing territorial dispute between the United Kingdom and Argentina. The two countries have previously fought a war over the islands, in the 1980s; however, the likelihood of a renewed conflict is small.

The risk of demonstrations and kidnapping is negligible. Currently, terrorism is unlikely to occur.

Medical facilities are of an adequate standard in Stanley, but services are limited outside of the this area. In the event of serious medical concerns, medical repatriation to another country may be required.
